Bernard Hopkins is giving Terence Crawford a big chance of success when he faces the biggest test of his career this September.

Crawford will be stepping up to super-middleweight for the biggest test of his career when he faces Canelo Alvarez for undisputed honours at 168lbs.

Just two years ago, Crawford was competing at welterweight, and he has only fought once above that limit when he defeated Israil Madrimov in 2024.

Opposing Canelo, Crawford will be facing one of the modern era’s best fighters and a fellow pound for pound superstar.

During Canelo’s reign as the face of boxing, the Mexican star has defeated some of boxing’s biggest names including Miguel Cotto, Gennadiy Golovkin, and Sergey Kovalev.

Welcoming Crawford to jump up two weight classes, Canelo has many backers within the sport, and he is also the betting favourite as the bout draws nearer.

Hopkins, who helped guide Canelo when he fought under the Golden Boy Promotions banner, has long been an admirer of both fighters.

When asked to give his verdict on how the contest might play out, Hopkins insisted that Crawford can be victorious.

“He has a legitimate chance, over 60%. He has an 85% chance to beat Canelo. Why? He’s not going there to prove something, which would fall into Canelo’s hands,” said Hopkins when speaking to Fight Hub TV.

“He’s going in there to let him know and establish from the first round that I belong, I earnt my position to be here, and I’ll show you that your time has come and is gone.”
