Daniel Dubois’ dream of becoming undisputed heavyweight champion was ruined on Saturday night as he was stopped in five rounds by Oleksandr Usyk.
The pair headlined a huge event at a sold-out Wembley Stadium, and it was Usyk who stole the show as he produced a vintage perofrmance to remain unbeaten.
Many had expected Dubois to put up a better fight as he entered the contest in impressive form on the back of three successive stoppages since losing to Usyk in 2023.
Dubois’ last outing at Wembley saw him destroy Anthony Joshua and that display had many of his team believing he could score an upset win against Usyk.
Once the bell went, it was one way traffic, and it was Usyk who was constantly on the front foot and his industry was rewarded with an emphatic win.
Dave Allen, who was in attendance at Wembley, has hit out at Dubois’ corner and has gone as far to say that their organisation was a ‘shambles.’
Dubois has faced many inquests since the result including a big focus on his corner and his late arrival to the venue, and the heavyweight contender has delivered a scathing verdict.
“At the end of round one, I believe Daniel’s dad was shouting double-jab right hand, taking over the corner,” said Allen when speaking to Talksport.
“Don Charles is the coach. Daniel and his dad have got a great relationship, but there’s one trainer.
“If I were in camp with Jamie Moore for 10 weeks and my dad came here and started giving me instructions, he’d be told where to go by me and Jamie. It’s ridiculous. He’s a great coach, Don Charles.
“Daniel Dubois’ father should not be giving any instructions. He’s not a boxing coach. It was a shambles, it went all wrong for Daniel.”
