Zuffa Boxing have bolstered their stable with the signing of reigning cruiserweight champion, Jai Opetaia.
Fronted by Dana White, the boxing upstart is set to start promoting shows later this month, but Opetaia’s next move is still unknown.
Dominant in his own weight class, Opetaia burst onto the world level scene in 2022 when he shocked Lativia’s Mairis Briedis to become world champion.
Since then, the Australian has made multiple defences on high profile shows and defeated a number of contenders including Jordan Thompson and Ellis Zorro.
This past year, Opetaia has been heavily linked to a huge showdown with fellow world champion at cruiserweight, Zurdo Ramirez, but it is unclear if that fight will now happen with Opetaia signing to Zuffa and Ramirez heading towards a fight with David Benavidez.
In the past, Opetaia has made several claims that he will move to heavyweight so he could be a keen observer when Charles Martin faces Efe Ajagba in February on a show being staged by Zuffa.
Will Opetaia’s heavyweight journey start with Zuffa boxing? Or will the Australian continue to be a force at cruiserweight and eventually seek fights with the likes of Ramirez and Benavidez.
Opetaia is the standout signing from White so far. Who will be next as the landscape of boxing continues to change?
