Moses Itauma continues to be linked to a huge world title fight with Oleksandr Usyk, but is the young British star ready to take on such a test?
Derek Chisora, a former world title challenger who has faced Usyk, is a big admirer of Itauma, but he does not believe he is ready to take on the division's best fighter as it stands.
In August, Itauma demonstrated his world level abilities as he destroyed Dillian Whyte in a matter of seconds as the contest was all over in the opening round.
That performance ensured Itauma became a major player at heavyweight, but his next move is still unconfirmed despite many speculating he could face Usyk.
As it stands, both Itauma and Chisora are rumoured to appear on the same bill in December, but the veteran heavyweight has provided his verdict on whether Usyk is ready to go in with Usyk.
The brilliant Ukrainian became undisputed ruler for a second time in July when he defeated Daniel Dubois, and apart from Itauma, it’s hard to find an opponent who could put a dent in Usyk.
Chisora knows his division as well as anybody, and he has urged Itauma, and those guiding his career, to slow down.
“You know what, he shouldn’t take the fight with Usyk,” said Chisora when speaking to Sun Sport.
“Don’t believe the hype of if you win it, you’ll be amazing, no, we’re building something great here, so if we’re building something great, we should not try to cash cow and say we want him to do this now.
“Let him learn the game and do it the right way so we can focus on him winning everything the right way in his time, we don’t want to rush him and say OK, you’ve knocked out 35 fighters who can’t fight. No.
“The greatest athlete of our generation, the GOAT, Oleksandr Usyk will blow him away, I love Moses, but I don’t think he will beat Usyk, no, never.”
