Eddie Hearn has delivered his verdict on Daniel Dubois’ recent defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
Earlier this month, Dubois was stopped in the fifth round by a dominant Usyk as his undisputed heavyweight title dreams were ruined by the brilliant Ukrainian.
In 2023, Usyk stopped Dubois in Poland, but fight fans were expecting a much closer fight this time around following the improvement of Dubois.
The Brit has registered three straight stoppage wins since losing to Usyk two years ago with the most recent one before Usyk being a destructive victory over Anthony Joshua.
Despite possessing a ton of ambition and heavy hands, Dubois was no match for Usyk as he was well beaten from the outset before Usyk found a big left hand to end the contest.
In the immediate aftermath, some high-profile figures within the sport claimed Dubois could've fought on, but Hearn, who has been outspoken about Dubois in the past, has praised the punch that dashed Dubois’s hopes at Wembley Stadium.
“It was a big shot. Seeing the first fight, it was a jab. He got hit by a stiff jab, he went down, he let the referee count to 10 in front of him. I think quitting is a very harsh word. He quit in the first fight,” said Hearn when speaking to The Stomping Ground.
“Give him the benefit of the doubt in the second fight, he chose not to get up. People will say that’s quitting. It wasn’t a stiff jab, it was a huge left hand. But the fact is he could have got up.”
