Filip Hrgovic looks to have landed himself a major fight with Moses Itauma after proving to be a class above Dave Allen in Doncaster.
After falling short against Arslanbek Makhmudov last year, Allen was handed another daunting task against Hrgovic, and he spent the build-up informing fight fans that he was in career best shape and ready to cause an upset.
Once the first bell sounded, Hrgovic showed his quality immediately as his jab allowed him to take control before he landed with several right hands.
This pattern continued throughout the short duration of the fight and in the third session with Allen taking further punishment on the ropes, Jamie Moore, Allen’s longtime trainer, jumped in to stop the fight.
In the post-fight interview, Hrgovic claimed he was ready for Itauma and that fight now looks a real possibility to take place in London on August 8th.
Earlier this year, Itauma was expected to receive a stern test against Jermaine Franklin, but he made light work of the durable American with a one-sided stoppage in the fifth round.
Many names were in the frame to face Itauma, but it now looks like Hrgovic will get the nod after impressing in Yorkshire.
Will Hrgovic be able to make a dent on the man many expect to become the new face of boxing? Or will Itauma’s incredible momentum continue?
