John Fury has long been honest about his son, Tyson Fury, when discussing his boxing career, and he has hit the former world champion with some big truths ahead his upcoming clash with Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11th.
Fury returns to the ring for the first time since December 2024 and he is hoping to avoid making it three consecutive losses against Mahmudov after two setbacks against current world champion at heavyweight, Oleksandr Usyk.
The former ruler of the division is targeting a showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year, but that fight can only take place if Fury can get past Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Despite his experience, Fury is getting older and after enduring a long, hard career that has taken in some brutal encounters against the likes of Usyk and Deontay Wilder, Fury Sr thinks the damage endured in those battles has caught up with his son.
Fury is a huge favourite against Makhmudov, but John believes the fight will be a tough test for Tyson to overcome.
“Makhmudov is a problem for Tyson. I am the first one to say it,” said Fury Sr when speaking to the Daily Mail
“Listen, I understand now that Tyson is testing himself. But, I can tell you now, his legs aren’t there anymore. I understand the only way he will believe that and see that is when the first bell rings.”
