Shane McGuigan has tipped Tyson Fury to beat Fabio Wardley if the heavyweight pair are to ever clash.

Wardley, the WBO champion, has impressed in recent years and he enjoyed a brilliant 2025 with stoppage wins against Justis Huni and Joseph Parker.

After Usyk vacated the WBO strap at the end of the year, Wardley, the interim holder, was upgraded to full champion and now has several options for his first defence.

One fight that could take place is an all-British showdown with Fury when the former champion returns to the ring.

Fury has been inactive since the end of 2024 when he was beaten for a second time by Usyk, and he has also been linked to multiple opponents in the first half of 2026.

If a fight with Wardley could be arranged, McGuigan, one of boxing’s leading trainers, has had his say on who he thinks would emerge victorious.

“Fury beats him, yeah, points,” said McGuigan when speaking to Pro Boxing Fans.

“Really, Fabio is only good when you go to him, that’s why Tyson Fury beats him in my opinion, he will just go away from him. He can’t pick his feet up, that’s why he generates that power when he comes in.

“He looks so rocky all the time that people go in for the finish and he turns one over and pulls one out of the bag. So, someone that would be disciplined like Fury who can stick by his jab and sense him beats him."
