Over the past numerous years  the question of who would eventually be known as the best heavyweight of this current era has focused on the two Brits, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury and knockout sensation Deontay Wilder. All three engaged in high-profile fights and won major titles, and in Fury's case, he was crowned the lineal champion as well.

As it turns out, none of the three mentioned carry that mantle into history. It is Oleksandr Usyk, who outpointed Fury for a second time this year to retain the lineal, WBO, WBC, and WBA titles in a highly skilled, high-level fight that had the tension to match the first bout in May on the Riyadh Season card on Saturday at Kingdom Arena.

All three judges were in agreement, having Usyk winning 116-112, many felt the fight was closer and that Fury was hard done by to only be given four rounds for his endeavour in the rematch. Usyk, who has campaigned most of his career at cruiserweight, where he became undisputed champion and then moved up to heavyweight five years ago in 2019. Now, after seven fights in the division, he has shown he is the guy. Usyk's past five fights tell a historic tale. He has defeated former undisputed champion Anthony Joshua twice and the current IBF heavyweight champion, Daniel Dubois. And, of course, Tyson Fury.

Usyk is not only the king of this era but is viewed by many as the pound-for-pound number one. Whether Oleksandr Usyk will continue his career will remain to be seen as he will turn 38 in January. Daniel Dubois, who was knocked out by Usyk in 2023, stormed into the ring during the post-fight interview hoping to secure the rematch. Dubois faces former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker next in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in February 2025.
