Christian Mbilli faces the biggest test of his career on Saturday night when he puts his WBC super-middleweight world title on the line against Canelo Alvarez in Riyadh, with the champion looking to establish himself as one of boxing’s leading names.
Mbilli arrives at the biggest opportunity of his career unbeaten, having built his reputation on relentless pressure, heavy hands and an impressive work rate.
The French-Cameroonian fighter was elevated to full world champion earlier this year and now has the chance to make a statement against one of the sport’s biggest stars.
However, Alvarez presents a different challenge, with the Mexican returning to the ring following his defeat to Terence Crawford in September 2025.
The former undisputed champion will be determined to reclaim a world title, but Mbilli backers are confident his aggressive style can prove too much for the veteran.
For Mbilli, the contest is about more than championship gold. Having admired Canelo for years, the 31-year-old has long wanted the opportunity to share the ring with the Mexican superstar, and he is convinced he can emerge victorious.
“When I moved to super-middleweight my goal was to fight Canelo,” said Mbilli when speaking to FightLens.
“I have lot of respect for his career. For me he's a legend. He has all my respect, and you know right now he's my opponent, and I will beat him.
“I will come here to beat him. I will come in October to have my win, to win this fight.”
